Okay. I'm trying out something new. And it's blue. Change is good . . . Right? Well, change is always happening around us, so here I go. I'm changing the looks of things around here. That's it.
Oh, and I'm getting a brand new refrigerator on Friday. I think. I absolutely hate to let the old one go. I mean, it's been part of this family longer than three of my four children! Seriously--and we're talking more than 30 years, okay?
I've coaxed it, cleaned it, called the repairman about once a year for the last three years or more, but it was so faithful for so long--and it's actually larger than the one that's replacing it. On Friday. Sigh. My children tell me I have to learn to let go. Hmmmmm. I wonder.
I've let each of them "go" out on their own. Every last one of them. And at some time or another, they've each come back. Hmmmmmm. Does that mean . . . that this fridge will follow that pattern . . . you know . . . since it's been in the family longer. No. Nuh, uh. Surely not. There will be no room for it. And, and, and, well. You know. It's NOT my CHILD, after all.
Old refrigerator friend, you were outstanding. You kept tons, tons of food cold or frozen for over 30 years. Except, you know, for those few times I didn't quite get you defrosted like I should have when the frost-free coils froze up solid. Then I had to deconstruct your freezing compartment and melt the built-up ice with my hair dryer and reconstruct your innards, or some of them and you'd perk along nicely, until about a month ago. I suppose you just got tired. You've be resting for two weeks now. Oh, how faithful you have been. Thank you from the bottom of my heart--and pocket book. That less than $300 we invested all those years ago were worth far more than than we could have possibly imagined at the time.
Now if appliances were designed and built to last like you were. What a wonderful world this would be. We'll miss you. *Sniff*

Cool new look PW - I love it!!!
:-)

Thank you so much, BB! Not as cool as your new look, but a little classier than my previous one.
Like the new look too.
And, I can tell you that your new refrigerator will NOT last longer than the old one. It just won't. Our old refrigerator was making a horrible noise. So we replaced it, in frustration. The new refrigerator? It makes that same noise.
Thanks, Debby. I KNOW it won't last nearly any 30 years+. Be lucky if it lasts 10. The "upstairs" model we have is either 10 or 11 years old now. Here's prayin' it'll keep chugging along for another 5 or 10. I just don't want to be 70, husband retired and have to start replacing all the major appliances, if you know what I mean. I thought about all that just the other night. Except for the brand new deep freeze and the soon-to-be-delivered refrigerator, all our appliances are about 10 or 10+ years old. You know what that means . . .
I just better be very grateful for what I've got now!!! Yes. Hot and cold running water and A/C and heat--etc.
I don't mean to discourage you but I can almost assure you the new one will not last 30 years -- nowhere near. I swore when I was a child I would not grow up to say, "They don't make things like they used to" but guess what? They don't make things like they used to.
My wife and I have a toaster and a blender that she brought into the marriage 26 years ago and she had had them both several years at the time. They both still work great. We could buy new ones but they wouldn't last as long and we're kind of attached to these anyway . . .
And oh, I knew there was a reason I liked you other than the fact you are gifted writer . . . you say cool things like "deep freeze." Your northern (and foreign) readers have no clue what you're talking about, I assure you! ;-)
Love the new look. Change is good for the soul.
Hey, Bob. Wow. You think I'm a gifted writer??? Thank you. Very much.
And it is a "deep freeze" cause it sure isn't an "up-right". I did wonder for a sec if all my readers would know what I meant, but then I thought "Of course they will." But thanks. I love the South. Spent most of my life down here in one southern state or another--even though my roots (and much of my heart) are still stuck in the Rockies.
Thanks again for your comments. I do appreciate them here and at your house (blog) too!
